Lucknow, Nov. 14 -- The Uttar Pradesh sugarcane development department has lodged an FIR against unidentified persons for allegedly creating a fake email ID of the sugarcane commissioner and using it to circulate misleading and fraudulent messages. The department termed the act a serious cybercrime involving attempts to obtain sensitive government information, documents, and data. The incident took place on November 7 at around 9.13 pm when the department's official email ID was reportedly hacked and manipulated to send fake communication. The FIR was registered on Thursday at the cyber crime police station by the department's headquarters, which has sought strict punitive action against those responsible.
