FIR against former DDO in Unnao school funds scam
LUCKNOW, May 5 -- An FIR has been registered against former district development officer (DDO) Sanjay Pandey, nodal officer of district mission management Shikha Mishra, and other unidentified individuals in connection with an alleged embezzlement of Rs 3.85 crore from the 2023-24 School Management Committee Budget (SMCB) in Unnao district, police said.
The funds were meant for the maintenance, repair, and basic operational needs of government schools, including libraries, sanitation, sports infrastructure, and safety measures.
Filed on Friday, the FIR invokes sections 409 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating), 467/468 (forgery), and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code.
Unnao City Kotwali inspector confirmed the registration of the case on Sunday, stating that further investigations are underway.
According to the FIR lodged by Tejwant Singh, project director of the district rural development agency, the complaint followed findings by two separate probe committees. These committees-headed by the chief development officer and additional district magistrate-flagged financial irregularities and the use of forged documents.
The inquiry revealed that multiple payments were made to non-existent accounts, and several records submitted for fund usage were found to be fake.
Both committees concluded that the named officials were responsible for the misappropriation. The budget, intended to improve learning environments in government schools, was allegedly diverted through forged documentation and fabricated transactions....
