FIR, two arrests in corruption cases
Lucknow, April 9 -- In a sweeping anti-corruption action, the Uttar Pradesh Vigilance Establishment on Wednesday registered an FIR in a disproportionate assets case and arrested two officials in separate bribery cases.
An FIR was lodged against former additional commissioner (Grade-2), commercial tax, Keshavlal, after an open inquiry found assets and expenditure far exceeding his known income.
Officials said his legitimate earnings during the check period were Rs.1 crore, while assets and spending totalled over Rs.18.27 crore-an alleged excess of Rs.17.26 crore. The case, probed by the Kanpur sector and submitted in January 2026, has been registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Investigations will now examine his assets, transactions and possible benami links.
In a separate case, vigilance officials in Prayagraj arrested Amit Kumar Mishra, block programme manager at CHC Baghrai in Pratapgarh, for allegedly accepting a Rs.50,000 bribe. He had reportedly demanded Rs.1.5 lakh to secure a sweeper's job at a primary health centre. Acting on a complaint, a trap team caught him red-handed while taking the advance amount.
Meanwhile, in Bijnor, district panchayat raj officer Rizwan Ahmad was arrested for allegedly accepting Rs.20,000 from a gram panchayat secretary as part of a Rs.50,000 bribe demand. He was caught during a trap at his office in Vikas Bhavan and later taken for further legal action.HTC...
