Financial anomalies: Probe against village heads, panchayat secys to be expedited
LUCKNOW, Dec. 1 -- With panchayat polls due early next year, the state government has directed district magistrates across UP to complete probe against gram pradhans and panchayat secretaries against whom complaints of financial irregularities are pending.
In Ayodhya district, against 92 such complaints, investigation in only six has been completed. Ayodhya district magistrate Nikhil Tikaram Funde has ordered a report within a month on 86 pending inquiries, some dating back to 2018, regarding allegations of corruption against village heads and panchayat secretaries.
According to Ayodhya administration, allegations are related to misappropriation of government funds by attaching fake bills related to development works carried out in gram panchayats. Out of these complaints, FIR was lodged in only one case initially. The rest are pending due to the alleged laxity of the investigation officers. One village head and a secretary were previously jailed after fake billing was confirmed in Ayodhya region.
The additional chief secretary, panchayati raj, UP, has instructed DMs to start a campaign and verify the inquiries day-wise.
The Ayodhya DM has instructed the district panchayati raj officer to expedite the disposal of pending inquiries. A similar drive will be carried out across the state....
