Lucknow, Sept. 28 -- City residents welcomed Goddess Durga amid the beats of the dhak, kasa and blowing of conch shells, on Saturday. Bodhan (process of infusing life into the Durga idol) was part of the puja. It is believed that on this day Goddess Durga comes to the mortal world with her children- Goddesses Lakshmi and Saraswati, Lord Ganesha and Kartikeya. The Puja at Vidyant Hindu Degree College is completing 90 years this year. "We got the idol decorated in the form of Rajbhesh (the royal dress)," said Avik Bhattacharya of Vidyant Durga Puja committee. At the Bengali Club an idol decorated in the form of Dhaker Saaj was installed in a pandal decorated with Santhal paintings. "The theme for this year's Durga Puja draws inspiration from the rustic charm of rural Bengal, while intricate Alpona designs marking the floors and walls," said Bengali Club president Arun Banerjee. A Chala style idol was installed at a Pandal set up in the form of Srinathji Temple at Model House Park. "The 14-foot idol is made in Bengali style," said organiser Nitesh Tiwari. This year, the Gomti Nagar Durga Puja committee got an idol consisting of both forms of Mahishasura - human and buffalo made as part of the design. "This kind of idol is difficult to make as it has more characters. There are two legends associated with the killing of Mahishasura. In one, Durga kills Mahishasura and the lion sucks the blood that drops from his body, while in the other, Durga kills Mahishasura and the lion kills the buffalo - a form of demon. This time we have narrated both the stories through the idol," said Ansh, a member of the organising committee....
