LUCKNOW, June 9 -- A female wolf that allegedly killed two minors in Mahsi Tehsil of Bahraich district has been rescued by forest staff. "The rescued wolf is under observation and once its health condition is found fit it is likely to go to a zoo," said Anuradha Vemuri, principal chief conservator of forests (wildlife), Uttar Pradesh, on Sunday. The female wolf reportedly killed two children in Pachasa village of the Mehsi tehsil. On April 14, the first victim, a child, got injured and later died in hospital, while on June 2, a four-year-old child was killed. The wolf attack kept villagers in a state of panic who claim that at least two other wolves are roaming free, even now. Bahraich saw at least 10 deaths in 2024 when a pack of over half-a-dozen wolves attacked villagers in August. Five wolves were rescued in a two-month-long operation.
