Feels like family: Aamir-Aamna on their decade-long friendship
India, Aug. 3 -- Actors Aamir Ali and Aamna Sharif's friendship is the kind that doesn't scream for attention - it's quiet, solid, and enduring. "I'm very reserved, I don't even remember how we became friends," says Aamna as Aamir adds, "She's shy and reserved. People used to think she had an attitude, but I saw the real her. It just feels like family."
What cements their bond is consistency, a shared value system, mutual respect, and always showing up. "Every time I'm doing something new or I'm confused, the first call goes to Aamir," says Aamna. Aamir returns the sentiment: "I've been Aamna's friend and fan since her TV days. We both prefer meaningful work, not hungry for just anything."
Friendship, for them, is about showing up during the lows. "Having one or two genuine friends in the industry is a big deal. That person for me is Aamir," says Aamna. "He's honest, I value that feedback." Aamir agrees, "Be real and be there. Even if they don't voice it out, your presence matters."
They don't meet regularly, but the trust remains. "Even if we don't talk for a month or two, it's the same when we reconnect," says Aamir. Aamna adds, "It's not about calling each other often. That silent support is the best."
Of course, their friendship isn't all serious talk. Their favourite ritual? A competitive game of UNO! "There was a time we were playing and whoever lost had to become a donkey! I had to make sure he lost," Aamna recalls with a laugh. " Aamir admits, "It's true, if ten people are playing, I don't care who wins or loses, but I have to beat her. That's the only thing that matters for both of us."
Reflecting on what initially surprised them about each other, Aamir says, "I thought she was just beautiful. Amu is very particular about who she lets into her circle, and I'm one of the only few people who can make fun of her and get away with it"
Aamna adds, "I used to think I'm boring, but with him, it's always a good time. No matter what time or day, if I call him say 'I need you', he'll be there for me. I can't ask for more from a friend."...
