Fear grips eight villages of pauri garhwal after leopard sighting
Haridwar, July 2 -- Residents of Kirtinagar block in Pauri Garhwal district reported leopard movement in about eight villages in Patakhal area in the past few weeks, people aware of the matter said.
A leopard has been constantly targeting goats, villagers said, adding that they have not been going to agricultural fields and grazing alone, fearing leopard movement.
"In the past six months ,six goats alone in our village have been killed by leopard , who is constantly being spotted in and around the village," said Saudhu village resident Madhusudan Bangwal.
"Villagers are in fear as along with livestock,they don't know when leopard will start targeting human beings too.Targeting of goats has also impacted livelihood of villagers," he added.
Residents of villages Saudhu, Gaulli, Barsouli, Gwalah, Naulli, Hashim, Pathakhal said that dozens of goats, sheep and a calf have been targeted by a leopard in past two months.
"Leopard movement is being monitored and patrolling has been intensified in the said villages," said deputy forest range officer (Srinagar Garhwal) SP Badoni.
"Due measures are being taken to trace the leopard and ensure safety of human beings and livestock," Badoni added.
