Fatty liver disease is a silent epidemic: KGMU doctors
LUCKNOW, June 13 -- The department of medical gastroenterology at King George's Medical University (KGMU) in Lucknow, observed Global Fatty Liver Day with a series of activities aimed at raising awareness about the prevention, early detection, and management of fatty liver disease. It was held at KGMU's Hepatology clinic, stated a press release from KGMU on Thursday.
Prof Sumit Rungta, head of the department of medical gastroenterology, highlighted the alarming statistics surrounding fatty liver disease globally and stressed the significance of lifestyle modifications. He remarked, "Fatty liver disease is a silent epidemic. Through awareness and preventive measures, we aim to combat this growing health concern effectively," he said.
Dr Ananya Gupta said early identification through screening and interventions like weight loss, diet modification, and physical activity can reverse liver fat and halt disease progression, while Dr Srikanth Kothalkar reaffirmed the department's commitment to tackling liver diseases by integrating patient education and advanced medical interventions.
