Rudrapur, Aug. 23 -- The father of a minor who injured a teacher at a private school in Kashipur on Wednesday by allegedly firing a pistol at him in the classroom was arrested, police said on Friday, adding that three cartridges were recovered from the house during a raid. Udham Singh Nagar senior superintendent of police (SSP) Manikant Mishra said on Friday, "The minor's father was aware that his son was carrying an illegal pistol to school. The man has a criminal record and has committed offences in the past." The 45-year-old father of the boy was taken into custody on Thursday. His son, a class nine student at a private school on Kundeshwari Road, had injured his 35-year-old physics teacher, Gagandeep Singh Kohli, with a country-made pistol during the interval on Wednesday. He said following the incident, the minor was immediately taken under police protection and an illegal pistol was recovered. According to police, during questioning the minor revealed that he had carried the pistol in his lunch box and that three cartridges were kept at home. Police subsequently raided the house, recovered the cartridges, and arrested his father on Thursday. The minor was produced before the juvenile justice board on Thursday and sent to a child correction centre. Mishra added, "The father had previously been jailed in 2015 for an attempted murder case."
