LUCKNOW, Aug. 13 -- Samajwadi Party Lok Sabha MP from Fatehpur Naresh Uttam Patel has written a letter to Union home minister Amit Shah over the alleged vandalism by right-wing groups at a mausoleum in that district on Monday. "I want to draw your attention to an incident which has not only shaken the peace and order of Fatehpur district, but has also raised serious questions on the safety of the protected historical heritage of the country," Patel's letter reads. "The approximately 350-year-old Nawab Abdus Samad tomb in Fatehpur is recorded as a national property in records. The BJP and its affiliated organisations are deliberately trying to make the tomb, which is protected by the archaeological department and the Waqf Board, controversial," the MP's letter claimed. "On August 11, 2025, 200-300 people broke the barricading and entered inside, damaged the tomb and hoisted the saffron flag there. All this appears to have happened with the tacit consent of the administration. This has deepened communal tension in the district," the letter alleged. "Around one bigha of valuable land related to the tomb has been illegally occupied by land mafia, while the high court has already given orders to vacate it. The lack of action shows failure and connivance of government machinery," wrote Patel. The SP MP has demanded a high-level and impartial investigation into the incident along with strict action against the culprits. The SP expelled its local leader in Fatehpur, Pappu Singh Chauhan, for anti-party activities. Party sources said Chauhan was allegedly involved in the vandalising of the mausoleum in Fatehpur on Monday.HTC...
