Fatehabad town may be renamed Sindoor Puram
AGRA, June 25 -- In a tribute to the success of Operation Sindoor against Pakistan, the zila panchayat of Agra has passed a proposal to rename Fatehabad town as Sindoor Puram. A proposal was also cleared to rename Badshahi Bagh, a prominent area in Fatehabad, as Brahma Bagh, after the BrahMos missile used in the operation, officials said.
The proposals were passed during a meeting of the district panchayat held late on Monday evening.
The session was chaired by zila panchayat president Manju Bhadoria, with chief development officer Pratibha Singh in attendance.
Several local development matters were also discussed and resolutions passed in the meeting.
According to a press statement issued by the District Information Office in Agra, Fatehabad was earlier known as Samugarh till Mughal emperor Aurangzeb named it Fatehabad to mark his "fateh" (victory) over brother Dara Shikoh killed by him in the year 1658.
Majority of the members attending the meeting were of the view that the name 'Fatehabad' was a symbol of slavery and that it should be renamed as 'Sindoor Puram', Bhadoria said....
