Farmers warn of stern stir if demands not met
Haridwar, April 2 -- Farmer unions in Haridwar have warned of agitation over the non-fulfilment of their pending demands related to timely payment of crop dues, end to challans issued on tractors, completion of land consolidation, among others.

The union has also demanded the creation of service-lane truck and tractor lay-bys along highway stretches near sugar mills and agricultural markets, waiver of electricity charges for irrigation purposes, and adequate availability of urea and quality seeds for farmers.
Meanwhile, Deepak Ram Chandra, joint magistrate of Roorkee, said that the administration is taking farmers' concerns seriously.
"Genuine demands of farmers are being addressed, and both the state government and district administration are seriously considering issues related to the agriculture sector." he said....
