Varanasi, June 19 -- A 55-year-old farmer was brutally killed by three bike-borne attackers outside his house in Marachi village, under Shahganj police station area of Sonbhadra district, in the early hours of Wednesday. The victim was identified as Amarnath Yadav, a local farmer. According to the police, Yadav was sleeping inside his house when a few men called him outside around 12.30 am. They first attacked him with knives. When his wife rushed out after hearing the noise, the attackers shot Yadav dead in front of her and fled the scene. Police arrived shortly after and took the body into custody. It was sent for a post-mortem examination. A police officer said that an old rivalry appears to be the reason behind the attack. Based on a complaint by the family, a case has been registered against three persons, including a man named Om Ji Pathak. Superintendent of Police Ashok Kumar Meena confirmed that police teams have been formed to trace and arrest the accused. He said they will be caught soon. Taking strong cognisance of the two incidents of firings that took place in Karela Bazaar under Patti Kotwali police station on Monday evening and Biharganj Bazar under Nagar Kotwali police station on Tuesday morning in Pratapgarh, the station house officers (SHOs) of both the police stations along with four police outpost in-charges, and one inspector and three constables have been suspended by the district police chief. SP Pratapgarh Anil Kumar confirmed suspensions of the 10 policemen on Tuesday night for showing laxity in both the incidents. It is to be recalled that 7-8 assailants on two cars had opened fire on two men, Eklakh Ahmed, 32, and his friend Nawab Ali, 40, both from Pure Devjani village under Kandhai police station, while they were sitting at a tea stall at Karela Bazar under the Patti Kotwali police station of Pratapagrh on Monday evening. Both were seriously injured. The attackers also tried to run over another man with their vehicle. While escaping, the attackers broke through a police checkpoint near the Karela Bazar outpost and continued firing. Two more people, Arpit Patel, 16, from Bhivni village and Mohammad Sohail, 22, from Taguri village were hit by bullets. The attackers fled and the incident took place merely 100 metres away from the police outpost. In this case, the SP suspended outpost in-charge Om Prakash Singh, SI Virendra Pratap Singh, two constables Pradeep Maurya, Dharmendra Yadav as well as Patti Kotwali police station SHO Aditya Singh. Likewise, assailants in two SUVs and a motorcycle had opened fire in the Biharganj market under the Nagar Kotwali police station in Pratapgarh on Tuesday morning, injuring two cousin brothers Mukesh Jaiswal, 32, and Amit Jaiswal alias Tinku, 26, both residents of Biharganj market and owners of separate sweet shops. Another local shopkeeper's brother was also injured in the incident. Here too the assailants had managed to flee the spot. In connection with this incident, the SP suspended in-charges of three police outposts including SI (in-charge) of Chilbila outpost Sachin Yadav, Medical College outpost in-charge Pradeep Kumar and ARTO police outpost in-charge Keshav Prasad of Antu police station along with the SHO concerned Jaichand Bharti. Sachin Yadav, who was handling the responsibility of Chilbila outpost in-charge, is accused of not taking any action even after receiving the complaint about a dispute between the two parties a day before the shooting. He did not even inform senior officials about it. Likewise, the Medical College and ARTO police outposts in-charges did not show promptness in catching the attackers who were running away after shooting the cousins in the market on Tuesday morning.
