Farmer killed while trying to douse wheat field fire, say police
Rudrapur, April 29 -- A 45-year-old farmer was killed while attempting to douse a fire that broke out in a wheat stubble field in Udham Singh Nagar district on Monday evening, police said on Tuesday
According to police officials, the incident occurred in Sitarganj block after the deceased, identified as Gurbaj Singh, spotted flames in his wheat stubble field and rushed to try and extinguish them, said police, adding that he was soon overwhelmed by the flames sustained severe burn injuries.
Family members and villagers rushed to the spot and alerted the police, fire brigade and ambulance services. The injured farmer was taken to a government hospital, where doctors declared him dead. "Police took the farmer to the government hospital in a critical condition, but doctors declared him brought dead. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained and a probe is underway," said Deepak Tiwari, in-charge of Sarkada police outpost. htc...
