PRAYAGRAJ, Nov. 21 -- Negligence at the Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital postmortem house on Thursday led to a body mix-up when the relatives of a Jaunpur resident mistakenly took the body of a man from Fatehpur. The error occurred after the postmortem examinations of 40-year-old Jitendra Kumar Kesarwani from Fatehpur and 57-year-old Awadhesh Kumar Vaishya from Jaunpur. The mistake was discovered during the transfer, prompting the immediate return of the bodies to the mortuary. Jitendra, a railway worker, who was hit by a train while working on the tracks, and Awadhesh, a businessman, who died in a road accident, underwent postmortem examinations that were completed and sealed before being handed to relatives. The routine process of calling family members to identify bodies went awry when they accidentally stood on opposite sides, leading to the swap. Jitendra's family left for Fatehpur carrying Awadhesh's body. When Awadhesh's relatives received the body, they were shocked to find it did not belong to their family member. Upon alerting mortuary staff, the error triggered an urgent check of all bodies that had been taken from the postmortem house in the past two hours. Staff contacted the families who had taken the bodies to verify identities. Families from Banda and Bara confirmed their own relatives, while Jitendra's family, stunned to see an unknown person, returned immediately to the hospital to exchange the bodies correctly....
