LUCKNOW, July 25 -- The Lucknow Police arrested a 32-year-old man who allegedly cheated multiple car owners by posing as a travel operator and absconded with their vehicles. The accused, Rajesh Gupta, was nabbed near Tedhi Pulia under Gudamba police station limits and eight four-wheelers were recovered, including luxury sedans and SUVs, believed to have been stolen for resale or scrapping in Bihar. According to the FIR filed by one of the victims, Pawan Tiwari, Rajesh Gupta approached individuals under the pretext of hiring their vehicles for his "tour and travel" business. However, after taking the vehicles, he neither paid the agreed rental fee nor returned them. When confronted, Gupta allegedly threatened complainants with dire consequences. The police launched an investigation under FIR registered at Gudamba police station under Sections 318(4), 316(2), 351(3), 352, and 317(2) of the BNS. All vehicles bore UP registration numbers and were found in near-pristine condition, suggesting they had not yet been sold or dismantled. Gupta, a resident of Adil Nagar, originally from Ballia, targeted particularly those looking to lease their cars for commercial use. "He would gain their trust with false documentation and promises of steady payments. Once he acquired the vehicle, he would become unreachable.
