LUCKNOW, Sept. 6 -- Police arrested fake IAS officer Saurabh Tripathi's associate Kumar Gaurav Pandey near the Qaiserbagh bus stand under the Wazirganj police station here on Friday evening, officials said. The 31-year-old man was caught with two mobile phones, which police believe could provide crucial leads in the case. Inspector-in-charge of Wazirganj police station Rajesh Kumar Tripathi led the team that nabbed Pandey after an informant alerted the police that the accused was moving from Globe Park towards Qaiserbagh, police officials said. A police team reached the location and conducted precautionary checks. On interrogation, the accused disclosed his identity as Kumar Gaurav Pandey, son of Munendra Pandey, resident Gomti Nagar Extension, with a permanent address in Nekpur Chaurasi, Farrukhabad. SHO Rajesh Kumar Tripathi confirmed the man was posing as a special secretary. He said the police are interrogating him and will take action accordingly. During the search, police recovered two mobile phones from his possession. "The seized devices will be examined for evidence, as they may contain data related to the fake IAS racket," a senior officer said. Pandey has been named in an FIR lodged under multiple Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections, including 204 (impersonating a public servant), 319(2) (cheating by personation), 318(4) (cheating), 338 (forgery of valuable securities, wills, and documents), 336(3) (forgery for the purpose of cheating), 340(2) (using forged document or electronic record) and 347(2) (counterfeiting property marks). Officials confirmed that he played a role in supporting the fake IAS officer, whose arrest had earlier exposed a larger fraud. "We are investigating Pandey's role in facilitating the activities of the fake IAS officer. Police caught the fake IAS officer during a routine checking drive in the state capital on Wednesday and seized six luxury vehicles, forged passes and IDs....
