VARANASI, Sept. 5 -- A fake call centre was busted and 29 accused allegedly involved in cyber fraud were arrested from a building of a school located near Amara Chauraha under Rohania police station area here on Thursday. Various electronic equipment used in online fraud, 24 mobile phones and seven forged Aadhar cards were recovered from the spot. A police officer said that information was received about some people working at unusual hours, from 7pm to 3am, in a school building located at Amara Chauraha for the last several days and committing online fraud by calling abroad. A joint police team of Rohania police station and Cyber Crime conducted a raid at the call centre from where a total of 29 accused were arrested on Thursday, police said. Assistant commissioner of police, Rohania, Sanjeev Kumar Sharma said that various types of electronic equipment (laptops of different brands, CPU, monitor, mouse, keyboard, headphones and mobile phones) and seven forged Aadhaar cards used in committing crime were recovered from them, said the officer. A case has been registered under various sections of the BNS and 66-D IT Act against 29 accused and further legal action is being taken, said the officer. During interrogation, one of the accused, Kaushalendra Tiwari (call center operator) and other accused said that they used to trap foreign nationals through fake IVR calls by getting their numbers from e-commerce websites.
