Eyewitness in murder case kidnapped, threatened
PRAYAGRAJ, Dec. 11 -- An eyewitness in the murder of a nagar panchayat council member and the former's brother were allegedly abducted and threatened not to testify in court.
The woman and her brother were also allegedly promised Rs 50,000 in exchange for their cooperation. Pawan Keshari, a council member of the Phulpur nagar panchayat in Prayagraj and a BJP leader, was shot dead in broad daylight in 2018. Urmila Devi witnessed the murder and was also injured by the shooters. Her brother Gulab Singh, a resident of Sherpur Purbi, Phulpur, told the police that on November 2, his sister Urmila Devi and Gulab Singh were forcibly taken from their home by Arshad Ullah, Parvez, Shanu Vakil and an unknown person. After this, they were taken to a hotel in Prayagraj city where the accused pressured them to take Rs 50,000 for retracting fromm their testimony in the court and testifying in their favor. When they refused, the accused threatened to kill them. SHO of Phulpur police station Praveen Kumar Gautam said that a case has been registered against the accused, and they are being searched....
