LUCKNOW, Nov. 11 -- An assistant excise commissioner has been dismissed from service after being found guilty in a case involving the alleged spillage and theft of 27,610 litres of bulk Extra Neutral Alcohol (ENA) at a distillery in Gonda district. The incident took place at M/s Starlight Brookem Limited, Nawabganj Distillery, in November 2024. The state excise department took cognisance of the matter in December 2024 and suspended assistant excise commissioner Rampreet Chauhan with immediate effect. A departmental inquiry was initiated, with the joint excise commissioner, Agra, appointed as the investigating officer. The inquiry report held Chauhan guilty, leading to his dismissal. Uttar Pradesh minister of state for excise (independent charge) Nitin Agarwal said, "Indiscipline, irregularities, negligence, and corruption of any kind will not be tolerated in the department.
