Ensure maximum job opportunities: Dhami
Dehradun, Jan. 30 -- Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Thursday directed all departments to work in a coordinated and time-bound manner to ensure maximum employment and self-employment opportunities for people through the government's flagship schemes.
He issued the directions while reviewing programmes related to agriculture, animal husbandry, tourism and industry sectors at the Secretariat.
The chief minister said complete information about these schemes must reach people through the "Government for the People, at the People's Doorstep" campaign, so that eligible beneficiaries can effectively avail themselves of the benefits.
Dhami further stressed on skill development of youngsters and said all departments must work effectively to create maximum self-employment avenues.
Reviewing the apple orchard scheme, Dhami said the programme must be implemented effectively to achieve targets within the stipulated time-frame. He directed officials to provide maximum incentives to farmers and ensure timely payments of all farmer-related dues. To help farmers secure better prices for their produce, he also instructed the administration to accelerate efforts to promote kiwi cultivation in the state.
Highlighting the state's potential in apiculture, the chief minister said Uttarakhand has immense scope in the field of honey production. He directed officials to strengthen efforts under the "Honey Mission" and ensure organic certification of honey in the state.
The meeting was informed that 29 products from Uttarakhand have received Geographical Indication (GI) tags so far, of which 18 are related to agriculture and agricultural welfare. Officials said that 25 more products have been identified for GI tagging in the current year.
Under the State Millet Policy, implemented at a cost of Rs.134 crore, finger millet, barnyard millet, amaranth and foxtail millet have been included.
Officials also informed that 216 procurement centres have been opened for the purchase and sale of millet crops, and a revolving fund of Rs.20 crore has been created under the cooperative department. In the current financial year, against a target of 5,000 metric tonnes, 5,386 metric tonnes of millet crops have already been procured.
The chief minister was also briefed on the progress of major self-employment schemes. Under the Chief Minister's Self-Employment Scheme and Chief Minister's Self-Employment Scheme 2.0, against a target of 32,000 beneficiaries over four years, 33,620 beneficiaries have been supported with financial assistance amounting to Rs.202.72 crore.
