Ensure accountability through active role: Mahana to MLAs
LUCKNOW, Oct. 30 -- Uttar Pradesh assembly speaker Satish Mahana called on legislators to actively contribute to committee proceedings by coming well-prepared, reviewing matters thoroughly, and presenting practical suggestions in the public interest. He said members must carry out their duties in the House and committees with complete dedication. Presiding over the meetings of various Parliamentary Committees at the Vidhan Sabha on Wednesday, Mahana said effective governance depends on collective responsibility and accountability. "The government runs on public taxes, and it is our shared duty to ensure that every penny is used wisely. Even the poorest citizen pays taxes, which makes transparency towards the public essential," he said.Committees that convened included the Joint Committee on Public Undertakings and Corporations, the Panchayati Raj Committee, the Committee on Inspection of Audit Reports of Local Bodies, and the Joint Committee on Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Denotified Tribes.Mahana noted that the Legislative Assembly Committees function under the provisions of the Constitution and not under any Act.
