Lucknow, March 23 -- Amid rising transformer failures and power outages, the Uttar Pradesh government has introduced strict accountability measures, making engineers financially liable for damaged transformers. In a directive, UPPCL chairman Ashish Goyal said repair costs of burnt transformers will be recovered from responsible engineers. Officials said recoveries will be made only after issuing notices under relevant service rules. The move comes as transformer burnouts have increased during peak demand, aggravating supply disruptions. The government aims to improve maintenance, ensure better load management and speed up response on the ground by fixing responsibility. Discoms have also been directed to install 100% fuse sets or tailless units across transformers to reduce damage and improve safety.
