Elephant injured after getting hit by train in U.S. Nagar: Officials
Rudrapur, Nov. 2 -- A male elephant was severely injured after being hit by a train on Lalkuan-Kashipur railway line on Friday night. Forest staff have reached the spot and are providing necessary medicine and food to the jumbo, said officials aware of the matter.
RN Gautam, ranger, Tanda range under Terai central division of forest in Kumaon said, "The incident took place around 8.30 pm Friday and our team has reached the spot on information and started providing food to him. Our veterinary staff reached the spot early Saturday morning and started the rescue operation." The elephant was hit by a OMS (Oscillation and Monitoring System" train near Bhatoj area in the middle of Tanda and Peepal Parao range.
The train was on the way from Kashipur to Lalkuaon when the incident took place.
It was in a speed violating speed norms on the certain stretch of the railway track set by the forest and railway, said ranger.
Gautam said, "We are lodging an FIR against the loco pilot under the Wildlife Protection Act for violating the norms. A signboard has been erected just 50-metre behind from the spot cautioning the loco pilots to maintain the fixed 30-km per hour speed of the train but railway staff hardly follow the instruction."...
