Dehradun, July 8 -- Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Monday announced that electric buses will be included in the bus fleet of the Uttarakhand Transport Corporation soon, for which the process of purchasing buses is in progress. "The procurement process of electric buses is currently underway. The move to include them as part of the bus fleet of the Uttarakhand Transport Corporation will help reduce traffic jams on these popular routes, especially during tourist seasons. If this initiative proves successful, the number of such services will be further increased," Dhami said after flagging off 20 new air-conditioned mini buses (Tempo Travellers) of the UTC at a function organised at his Camp Office in Dehradun. "The new vehicles aim to strengthen regional connectivity and ease traffic congestion on key tourist routes. Of the 20 new tempo travellers, 10 will operate on the Dehradun-Mussoorie route and the remaining 10 on the Haldwani-Nainital route," he said. The CM also took a ride in one of the tempo travellers from the Camp Office to the GTC Helipad. "The air-conditioned mini buses will offer safe, smooth, and affordable travel for passengers while boosting the state's tourism and economic activities. These vehicles will play a key role in strengthening the state's transport system," he said. During the event, the chief minister also highlighted the ongoing efforts to improve Uttarakhand's transport infrastructure, including the development of better road connectivity and the expansion of digital services like online ticket booking, digital ticketing, and vehicle tracking.
