Elderly woman strangled to death in Prayagraj
PRAYAGRAJ, April 13 -- A 62-year-old woman was found strangled to death in the trans-Yamuna region under the Manda police station area in Prayagraj on Sunday morning. After the incident, gold and silver jewellery was also found missing from the body, raising suspicions that robbery might also be a motive for the murder.
Police have registered a case of murder and launched an investigation into all possible angles, including an ongoing land dispute while detaining two peresons fopr questioning.
The deceased was found lying with disheveled clothes on a cot in the semi-open verandah of her house in Babura village under Barha Kala gram panchayat, police said.
According to police, she had been sleeping in the verandah on Saturday night when the incident occurred.
Her body bore scratch marks on her hands, suggesting a possible struggle. Prima facie, officials suspect she may have been strangled.
The incident came to light around 5 am when neighbours alerted her elder daughter, a resident of Sadi village who rushed to the spot with her sister and found their mother dead. Acting on information provided by village Pradhan representative Rajeshwar Yadav, local police reached the scene.
A police team comprising inspector Madhav Prasad Tripathi, sub-inspector Chandrapal Singh, women police personnel, and officials from Dighiya police outpost, along with ACP (Meja) Sant Prasad Upadhyay, conducted a preliminary investigation. A forensic team also examined the spot.
Police took custody of the body, completed legal formalities, and sent it for postmortem examination. Based on a written complaint filed by the daughter of the deceased, a case of suspected murder has been registered against unknown assailants, ACP (Meja) Sant Prasad Upadhyay said.
