Elderly woman's body found hanging in Prayagraj
PRAYAGRAJ, April 13 -- A 65-year-old woman's body was found hanging inside her home on Sunday morning in Bodipur Dharauta village under the Mauaima police station area in Prayagraj. Neighbours became suspicious after sensing a foul smell coming from the house and alerted others.
Upon entering, they discovered her body hanging from a rope tied to a bamboo beam in a rear room. Police reached the spot after being informed and sent the body for postmortem examination.
The deceased had been living in extreme poverty, as her husband had gone missing around 20 years ago due to mental illness. Her elder son moved to Delhi with his family a few years ago following frequent disputes with his younger brother. Her younger son, who suffers from a mental disorder, lived with her, while her two daughters are married and reside separately. Owing to her son's condition, neighbours generally kept their distance from the household.
Villagers said that she was struggling severely for survival. She had mortgaged her 15 biswa of land and taken loans from a self-help group to partially construct her house.
With no stable source of income, she often relied on neighbours for food.
They also noted that she had not visited anyone for meals for nearly five days, which raised concern. Her son was found lying on a cot in another room, apparently unaware of the situation.
Inspector of Mauaima police station said the family frequently faced domestic tension due to poverty and the mentally unstable son. Police are investigating all aspects of the case, and further details will be known after the postmortem report.
A 25-year-old man allegedly committed suicide by hanging following a heated argument with his fiancee over the phone in Kaushambi. The wedding was scheduled to take place on April 20. He left home on Saturday evening, telling his family he was going to his field while speaking to his fiancee. After an argument, he returned home and died by suicide. When the room remained locked for long, family members grew suspicious, broke it open, and found his body hanging. SHO of Paschimsharira police station Harish Tiwari said that the body has been sent for a postmortem, and further action will be taken once the report was received....
