Lucknow, Jan. 5 -- An elderly man allegedly died by suicide after shooting himself with his licensed rifle in the Krishna Nagar area of the city on Sunday, police officials said. According to officials, the incident was reported around 9 am from a village under the jurisdiction of Krishna Nagar police station. A police team rushed to the spot immediately after receiving the information and found the man dead at the scene. Preliminary inquiry revealed that the deceased was around 65 years old and had earlier served as a home guard. Police said he used his licensed 12-bore rifle. Family members informed the police that he had been suffering from a prolonged illness and was under mental stress for some time. He is survived by his wife, two sons and daughters-in- law. "A forensic team was called to the spot, and necessary legal formalities were completed. The body was taken into custody and sent for the post-mortem examination," according to a statement issued by the police on Sunday.
