Prayagraj, Dec. 13 -- An elderly man selling fast food on his bicycle was killed after being run over by a speeding pickup truck in Sukhpal Nagar under Kotwali Dehat police station on Friday morning. The victim, Raj Dharkar (65) of Katra Mediniganj, was riding his bicycle around 7.30 am when the pickup hit him from behind. The driver abandoned the vehicle and fled. Kotwali SHO Atul Tiwari reached the spot and sent the victim to the medical college, where he was declared dead. The pickup has been seized, and a search is underway for the driver. The Narcotics Department and Jhunsi police conducted a joint operation on Friday and arrested a smack smuggler in Prayagraj. Police recovered narcotics worth approximately Rs.10 lakh from his possession. Jhunsi SHO Mahesh Mishra said reports of increasing smack sales had been received from the area. Acting on the information, police arrested Deepak Bharatiya of Narayan Das Purwa from Trivenipuram ground. They recovered 62.14 grams of smack, Rs.660 in cash and a mobile phone. The seized narcotics are valued at around Rs.10 lakh. A woman created a false story of a Rs.12.80 lakh theft to mislead her husband. She called the police helpline to report the fake incident. Police later discovered the truth after checking CCTV footage near the reported location. According to police, the woman from Dhoomanganj married a year ago. Her husband, a private driver, allegedly pressured her daily to bring money from her parents to buy a car. Unable to bear the harassment, she planned the false theft. She told her husband that she was carrying Rs.12.80 lakh in a bag when they went to book a car. At a petrol pump, she left the bag and later claimed it had been stolen. CCTV footage, however, showed her throwing the bag aside. Civil Lines SHO Ramashray Yadav said the woman admitted during questioning that there had never been any money in the bag and that she had made up the story to escape her husband's demands....
