LUCKNOW, Nov. 24 -- Former village head Mohammad Roshan, 80, and his wife Waseela, 60, were found dead under suspicious circumstances in Khawa Pokhar village under Ikauna police station limits of Shravasti on Sunday morning, confirmed senior police officials. "While Roshan's body was lying inside the house with blood oozing from his nose, his wife's body was recovered nearly 50 metres away in nearby bushes, bearing injuries around the eyes," informed Shravasti superintendent of police (SP) Rahul Bhati, and added, "The couple had been living alone in their ancestral home for several years, even though their sons, Guddu and Pullu, reside barely 100 metres away." According to Guddu, who discovered the bodies around 5 am while leaving for morning prayers, he was shocked to find his mother lying in a pool of blood outside. On entering the house, he found his father dead as well. His cries alerted neighbours, who rushed to the spot and informed the police. A police team led by SHO Ikauna Akhilesh Pandey reached the site at around 7.30 am and summoned the forensic unit. The bodies were sent for post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death. Family members have alleged that the couple may have been murdered due to a simmering land dispute. Roshan owned three small shops on a 30-square-foot plot in the Ikauna market, which had reportedly been at the centre of conflict with a local youth, Rinku Tripathi, for the past three months. Roshan had accused him of fraudulently transferring ownership of the plot and had lodged an FIR at the Ikauna police station. The matter was under investigation. Villagers said the couple had been isolated for years and had strained relations with their sons, who rarely visited them. They cooked their own meals and lived independently. The SHO said the police are probing all angles, including the alleged property dispute. "The bodies have been sent for post-mortem. Only the report will confirm the cause of death," he said. Circle officer Bharat Paswan added that the investigation is underway and it is too early to draw conclusions....
