Agra, Sept. 17 -- An elderly couple was burnt to death while sleeping in their house in the early hours of Tuesday. The fire is suspected to have been caused by a short circuit while an electric scooter battery was being charged. The tragic incident occurred in the Jagdishpura area of Agra, where Pramod Kumar, a shop owner, lived with his family. Around 1:30 am on Tuesday, he placed his scooter battery on charge in the gallery on the ground floor, where his parents were asleep, and then went to sleep on the first floor. According to Jagdishpura police, Pramod's father, Bhagwati Prasad, 95, and mother, Urmila Devi, 85, were sleeping in the room along with their granddaughter, Kakul. At around 4:00 am, a fire broke out in the room. Kakul woke up and rushed upstairs to alert her parents. Pramod immediately ran down to rescue his parents, but by then it was too late. Neighbours gathered on hearing the cries for help and assisted in pulling the elderly couple out of the room. Bhagwati Prasad died on the spot, while Urmila Devi succumbed to her injuries later in the hospital.Police are investigating the exact cause of the fire, but initial suspicion points to a short circuit from the charging battery as the trigger....
