PRAYAGRAJ, July 21 -- Eight people were arrested for carrying out illegal religious conversions in Pratapgarh's Kacha Dubey Ka Purwa village on Sunday, police said. The arrests were made after Jetwara police raided a house in the village following a complaint that a woman and her associates invited people to her house every Sunday and encouraged them to change their religion on the pretext that it would cure them of their diseases. The complainant stated that several people from Lilapur, Lalganj, Maheshganj and Mandhata police station areas supported the woman in carrying out the alleged conversions. According to the complainant, he and several others from the village found dozens of people taking part in a religious meeting when they went to the house. The arrested persons were identified as Ramchandra Verma from Dudhnath, Rajendra Verma from Ghari Lilapur, Ramsanehi Saroj, Ashok Saroj and Surendra from Bhaggu ka Purwa, Mukesh Saroj from Sansaripur, Sunil Saroj from Dhingvash and Divya Verma from the spot.
