Efforts to tackle anaemia strengthened at state-level meeting
LUCKNOW, July 23 -- A meeting of the State Level Task Force under the Anaemia Mukt Bharat Programme was held on Tuesday at Lal Bahadur Shastri Bhawan in Lucknow. The session was chaired by Partha Sarathi Sen Sharma, principal secretary, Medical Health and Family Welfare.
The meeting focused on how to reduce anaemia among people aged between 6 months and 59 years in Uttar Pradesh. During the discussions, the principal secretary instructed the health department to ensure that digital hemoglobin meters and testing strips are available at all levels of the healthcare system.
He also called for a special awareness campaign to help identify anaemia among the general public. The Anaemia Mukt Bharat Programme aims to reduce anaemia through six main actions. These include providing Iron and Folic Acid supplements, regular deworming, raising awareness through communication campaigns, using digital tools to check haemoglobin levels, supplying food rich in iron and folic acid, and treating causes of anaemia that are not linked to nutrition.
Officials from the health department and several key organisations took part in the meeting. These included Dr Pinki Jowel, director of the National Health Mission; Dr Dinesh Kumar, director general, Family Welfare; and Dr Ratanpal Singh Suman, director general, Medical and Health Services.
Representatives from the departments of education, nutrition, child development, Panchayati Raj, UNICEF, WHO, Nutrition International and TSU were also present. The task force will continue to monitor the programme and review its progress to ensure that it is carried out effectively across the state....
