Lucknow, Aug. 5 -- Director general of police (DGP) Rajeev Krishna has said economic crimes were a serious challenge today, affecting the state's economy and the public's hard-earned savings. He was addressing a workshop by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the state that explored innovative solutions to combat fraud in the banking sector. The day-long state-level meet was held here to expedite action against economic crimes through technical investigations and powerful monitoring. The DGP, who inaugurated the workshop, praised the EOW's new initiatives and stressed the need for robust and transparent efforts to protect public funds. EOW director general Neerja Verma stated that the purpose of this programme was to enhance knowledge and skills in investigating financial crimes and promote collaboration among various stakeholders. Ashok Kumar, the joint director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), stated that the nature of economic crimes had become multi-dimensional, and emphasised coordinated investigation, use of technical tools, and an aware society to control such crimes. During the event, the EOW launched four initiatives, including a new logo, case management software (CMS), booklet/pamphlet and a short film. The CMS enables 24/7 online monitoring of investigations, saving time in paperwork and ensuring swift action. It will facilitate rapid disposal and monitored investigation processes.
