Lucknow, Dec. 11 -- Uttar Pradesh is set to introduce its first electric double-decker bus in the state capital. The new bus service designed specifically for sightseeing-will begin operations in Lucknow on December 25, coinciding with the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The bus will operate from the 1090 Crossing and offer curated tours of Lucknow's historic landmarks, cultural corridors and ancient religious sites. To enhance the experience, trained guides will accompany passengers, narrating the city's heritage, traditions, and architectural stories. Officials said the final decision on the bus route and fare structure will be taken after additional rounds of discussion. The electric double-decker is aimed at making cultural experiences more accessible and engaging for both domestic and international tourists. "Lucknow's history deserves to be experienced in a way that is modern, convenient and environmentally responsible," said Principal Secretary Tourism and culture Amrit Abhijat during a departmental review meeting at Tourism Bhavan. The initiative comes as the Tourism and Culture Department accelerates infrastructure upgrades across the state. In the review meeting on Wednesday in presence of minister Jaiveer Singh the principal secretary said that all ongoing projects must follow strict standards of transparency, quality and financial discipline, with set deadlines extending to December 2025 and February 2026. While the review covered museum projects, Ramleela venue development, and several cultural centres, the upcoming launch of the electric double-decker bus remained the highlight.
