PRAYAGRAJ, June 3 -- An e-rickshaw driver stole a wireless handset belonging to a Government Railway Police (GRP) constable, simply to listen to film songs. The incident took place on May 24, 2025 at platform number 1 of Prayagraj Junction. The driver took the wireless set to his village and switched it on, hoping to enjoy music. However, instead of songs, he heard police messages being transmitted through the device. Panicked and fearing he would be traced by the police, he turned it off and hid it. The theft came to light when the GRP constable, Vipin Kumar Bhartiya, reported the wireless set missing. He had fallen asleep while on duty near Lineshah Baba mazar on platform 1. CCTV footage from the station later showed the moment the device was stolen. Based on CCTV footage, a case was filed at Prayagraj GRP station. The constable, a Chandauli resident on duty from 10 am to 8 pm, was suspended on May 25 for negligence. He was arrested on 29 May and admitted to stealing the wireless set to listen to songs.
