LUCKNOW, Oct. 12 -- Uttar Pradesh deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, along with a delegation, arrived in Elista, the capital of Russia's Kalmykia Republic on Saturday, carrying the sacred relics of Lord Buddha for public display, a government spokesman said. The delegation, according to him, was warmly received by Kalmykia's Head, His Excellency Batu Sergeyevich Khasikov, India's ambassador to Russia, senior monks and other dignitaries. Before departure from Delhi, Maurya performed a ceremonial worship of the Buddha relics at Palam airport, joined by revered monks. Addressing the occasion, he described it as a "lifetime honour" to bring the holy relics, originally from Piprahwa in UP, inked to ancient Kapilavastu to Buddha temple in Kalmykia.
