Jaipur, Sept. 16 -- Deputy chief minister Diya Kumari on Monday called upon citizens to play an active role in promoting road safety by stopping and encouraging riders without helmets to wear one, stressing that the issue is not merely about challans but about saving lives. She was addressing the valedictory session of the Surakshit Sadak Marg Abhiyan and Engineer's Day celebrations at AICTE Centre, Jaipur. Lauding the campaign, Diya Kumari said it directly connects with the people, and appreciated the efforts of Public Works Department engineers, particularly women engineers, for raising awareness among students and the public. She also directed engineers to inspect roads at least twice a week and submit weekly reports, warning that in future, negligence will invite action rather than warnings. She announced that the campaign will be turned into a people's movement involving all MLAs and MPs, urging them to share key campaign messages on their social media platforms. Chief Engineer (Quality Control) Jaswant Khatri informed that between August 9 and September 15, the campaign covered 1,097 institutions across Rajasthan, sensitising 4.18 lakh students about road safety. Karauli district topped the campaign with awareness activities in 112 institutions reaching over 41,000 students, followed by Sikar and Dungarpur.
