Durga idol immersion today, preparations complete: Admn
LUCKNOW, Oct. 2 -- Authorities claimed that elaborate arrangements were in place at Jhule Lal Ghat on the banks of the Gomti for immersion of Durga idols on Thursday.
This will be the seventh consecutive year when puja committees will immerse idols in pits to save the Gomti from further pollution.
An official said that authorities are in touch with Durga Puja organisers seeking their cooperation to bring a peaceful end to Durga Puja.
Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) has put up proper lights so that immersion can be carried out even at night.
Trained divers will be deployed too to avert any incident.
More than 80 Durga idols are likely to be immersed in artificial ponds dug up by Lucknow Municipal Corporation and the administration.
The local authorities lauded Durga Puja committees and individuals who volunteered for immersion of Maa Durga idols in an eco-friendly way. The immersion will be carried out in the presence of police.
Two prominent puja organisers--Bengali Club and Ramakrishna Math will immerse idols on their own premises. Bengali Club will immerse the idol in a pit on its campus adjacent to Durga Mandap amid beating of 'dhaak' and dance by members and devotees. Ramakrishna Math shall immerse their Durga idol in their orchard in Gosainganj area....
