Dumper truck driver killed after vehicle falls into 100-metre gorge
Dehradun, Nov. 24 -- A dumper truck driver died after his vehicle fell into a ravine off Arms Road in Kotdwara, Pauri Garhwal district on Sunday, officials said.
The deceased was identified as Dhirendra Rawat (36), they added.
SDRF officials said that according to information received at the Dugadda police post, the driver lost control of the vehicle and it plunged nearly 100 metres into the gorge.
A rescue team led by Additional Sub-Inspector Shekhar Chandra Joshi from the SDRF Kotdwar post immediately reached the spot and his body was recovered after a challenging operation and handed over to police, they added.
In another incident that occured late on Saturday night, the SDRF rescued a man injured after his vehicle fell 500 metres into a ravine near Pilkhi-Banjori in Tehri's Ghansali area, said officials.
They added that the District Control Room informed the SDRF around midnight that a vehicle had skidded off the road and crashed into the gorge. An SDRF team immediately rushed to the location.
Rescuers climbed down the steep slope and located the injured driver, identified as Dharamnand Semwal (55), a resident of Jamolna village in Tehri Garhwal, said officials, adding that he was rescued from the ravine under extremely challenging conditions and was taken to the hospital in an ambulance....
