LUCKNOW, June 15 -- An underground healthcare economy is quietly thriving under black tarpaulin tents In the heart of Lucknow, a city home to premier super-specialty hospitals and government-backed medical institutes. These unlicensed, makeshift clinics, often no larger than 8x8 feet, are run by self-styled 'vaidyajis' who promise cure-alls for everything from common cold and joint pain to cancer and sexual disorders, all for as little as Rs.20.
