Drug trafficker arrested in Ghazipur, heroin worth Rs.85 lakh seized
LUCKNOW, Dec. 24 -- The Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of Uttar Pradesh Police arrested an active drug trafficker in Ghazipur district on Tuesday and seized 425 grams of heroin valued at around Rs.85 lakh, along with a mobile phone and cash, officials confirmed in a press note shared with media. They said the arrest was made by the ANTF police station, Ghazipur, under the supervision and directions of the UP director general of police (DGP) Rajeev Krishna. The accused has been identified as Pankaj Kumar (22), son of Nathuni Ram, a resident of Kanungo Mohalla under Zamania police station limits in Ghazipur district.
According to police, the accused was apprehended near the road leading to Dildarnagar, close to the Regional Forest Officer's office, behind a paan kiosk under Zamania police station limits. They said 425 grams of illegal heroin, an android mobile phone and Rs.250 in cash were recovered from his possession during the search. A case has been registered against the accused at Zamania police station under appropriate sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further legal proceedings are underway.
During interrogation, the accused revealed that he used to procure heroin at cheaper rates from a supplier in Ghazipur and sold it to a buyer in Bihar. He was carrying the consignment for delivery when he was arrested, police said.
