Haridwar, Sept. 17 -- A major operation is currently underway to trace a wild bear who has created terror in the Paithani forest range of Pauri Garhwal for the past few weeks, officials said. Forest department officials monitoring the operation said that the sloth bear has in the past few days killed 17 livestock, creating fear among villagers. A joint operation is being carried out since September 6, after a rise in incidents of bear attack and the matter being brought to the notice of cabinet minister Dhan Singh Rawat and Pauri Garhwal district magistrate Swati S Bhadauriya. DM Bhadauria had recently given directievs to forests officials to look into this matter and provide releif to the local people.
