Drone scare sparks chaos in Trans-Yamuna villages
Prayagraj, Sept. 29 -- Incidents triggered by rumors of drone sightings continue to create panic in the Trans-Yamuna region of Prayagraj district. Villagers, fearing thieves using drones to scout targets, have started patrolling their areas at night in groups. However, the growing suspicion has led to multiple incidents where innocent people-and even police teams-have been chased or attacked.
In one such incident on Saturday night, villagers in Updaura Lohari (under Meja tehsil) mistook a businessman and his brother-in-law, who were returning from Prayagraj to Sirsa town, for drone-operating thieves. The duo was attacked by villagers who damaged their car. SHO of Meja police station, Anil Kumar Pandey, reached the scene soon after, prompting the attackers to flee.
In a separate incident around 2 am the same night, two police constables from the Sirsa police outpost were chased by villagers in Tarawai village under Tharwai police station limits. The constables had entered the village as part of routine patrolling but were mistaken for drone thieves when they flashed their torches.
