Lucknow, Sept. 9 -- The Centre has approved setting up an Institute of Driving Training and Research (IDTR) and a Regional Driver Training and Research Centre (RDTC) in nine cities, including Lucknow, with financial support from the Government of India. "The facility will train commercial and private vehicle drivers to enhance road safety and reduce accidents," a senior transport official said. Other cities to get the centres are Balia, Gorakhpur, Agra, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Jhansi, Kanpur Nagar, Shahjahanpur and Prayagraj. Officials said Uttar Pradesh has over 30 lakh commercial vehicles but a shortage of skilled drivers.
