MEERUT, Dec. 27 -- The detailed project report (DPR) for the ambitious 750-km-long Shamli-Gorakhpur Greenfield Economic Corridor Expressway, stretching from western Uttar Pradesh to the Nepal border in eastern Uttar Pradesh, is ready. The six-lane expressway is estimated to cost around Rs.35,000 crore and will be developed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), with execution responsibility assigned to its Roorkee unit. The expressway will pass through 22 districts across Uttar Pradesh. According to officials, once completed, it is expected to transform regional connectivity, accelerate economic activity, and strengthen linkages between western, central, and eastern Uttar Pradesh. Officials said NHAI headquarters in New Delhi has directed the Roorkee unit to initiate the land acquisition process by issuing gazette notifications in three phases. In the first phase, preparations are underway to release a gazette notification listing all concerned tehsils and villages by January 31. A private Delhi-based company has prepared the DPR for the project, while the drone survey of the proposed alignment has already been completed. To facilitate land acquisition and administrative procedures, the NHAI Roorkee Project Implementation Unit had sought the appointment of a competent authority. In response, Shamli DM Arvind Kumar Chauhan has appointed ADM (finance and revenue) Satyendra Kumar Singh as the competent authority for the expressway and forwarded the compliance report to the Roorkee unit. NHAI project engineer Naveen Kumar confirmed that the DPR is ready and that the notification process has been expedited. He said there is a strong possibility that the expressway will be completed within the next three years once construction begins. The Shamli-Gorakhpur Expressway is planned as a key economic corridor and will connect five major expressways-Ganga Expressway, Purvanchal Expressway, Lucknow-Gorakhpur Expressway, Ambala-Shamli Expressway, and Delhi-Dehradun Expressway.
