Dozen shops gutted in two separate fires in Lko, none hurt
LUCKNOW, Nov. 18 -- Two separate fire incidents, one near the Itaunja overbridge and another in Chowk's Akbari Gate, gutted over a dozen makeshift shops and a mobile store on Sunday.
According to officials, the fire department's swift action kept the blaze from spreading. Despite substantial property damage, no injuries or casualties were reported in either incident.
"The first fire was reported around 12:22 am near the Itaunja overbridge after a row of 'gumtis' (makeshift shops) caught fire. According to the BKT Fire Station control room, the flames quickly spread to 5-6 shops, leading to the deployment of two fire tenders and a water bowser from Chowk Fire Station," said Ankush Mittal, CFO, Lucknow.
Firefighters worked to contain the blaze and managed to prevent it from spreading beyond the cluster of shops. However, several structures were completely destroyed, including a plastic scrap warehouse, a motorcycle garage, a four-wheeler garage, an electrician's shop, an egg stall, and a cycle and cage repair shop, said officials.
Earlier that night, a separate fire broke out at a mobile shop in Akbari Gate, Mahmood Nagar, under Chowk police station.
Preliminary investigation suggests a short circuit sparked the blaze. Since the shop was closed at the time, police broke open the shutter to allow firefighters to access the premises quickly.
Two fire tenders arrived at the scene and after intense efforts, officials were able to bring the situation under control. However, most of the shop's stock was destroyed in the blaze.
Fire department officials said their prompt response kept the flames from spreading to the densely packed surrounding structures, preventing a potential major disaster....
