Double murder on Eid sparks tension in Meerut village
Meerut, March 23 -- A double murder in Mehrmati Ganeshpur village of Sardhana area on Eid has left the region tense and grieving. Two brothers-Bhoora (40) and Saimuddin (36), siblings of village head Shahidu-were brutally killed following a violent clash that reportedly began over a minor dispute at a graveyard.
According to eyewitness accounts, the incident escalated from a verbal altercation into a deadly confrontation, with both sides allegedly using sharp-edged weapons. The brothers sustained critical injuries and died while being rushed to the hospital.
The situation intensified on Sunday morning when the bodies, after postmortem, were brought back to the village. Grief quickly turned into anger, with family members and locals creating a ruckus. Reports also emerged of attempts to set the houses of the accused on fire, which were controlled by the police in time.
In a strong show of protest, the bereaved family refused to bury the bodies, demanding strict action against the accused, including the demolition of their houses. As of Sunday afternoon, the last rites had not been performed, with local leaders and officials trying to pacify the family.
A forensic team has inspected the crime scene and collected evidence. Meanwhile, heavy police deployment has been made in the village to prevent further escalation. Senior officials, including SDM Udit Narayan Sengar and CO Ashutosh Kumar, along with police personnel from multiple stations, are camping in the area and closely monitoring the situation....
