Double-decker bridge planned over Yamuna in Prayagraj
Prayagraj, Oct. 15 -- A new double-decker bridge is planned over the Yamuna River for the first time in 160 years. The bridge will have two levels: one for trains and another for road traffic, including two-wheelers and cars. Both Indian Railways and the district administration had separate plans to build bridges over the Yamuna. But due to delays and land problems in the past, they decided to join their plans into one single double-decker bridge.
The new railway bridge is part of the third rail line expansion between Mughalsarai and Kanpur. At the same time, the Uttar Pradesh government had approved a road bridge to be ready before the Mahakumbh event in 2025. Following government rules to combine projects when possible, both sides agreed to build one shared bridge.
District magistrate Manish Kumar Verma held a meeting between the Prayagraj Mela Authority and railway officials. They agreed to work together on the new design. ADM (Mela) Dayanand Prasad said further technical details will be discussed soon. This double-decker bridge will reduce land needed and lower costs. It will be a modern version of the original Yamuna Bridge built over 160 years ago....
